The JSMS 8145-001-RFD Broadcast RF Detector was designed to allow monitoring, and data delivery using proven automation industry standards. The sensor operates over a 50dB dynamic range with a frequency bandwidth of 40–850MHz, and can handle both analog and digital modulation schemes, with the ability to measure average and limited peak power.

The digital interface is RS-485 using modbus data protocol. Modbus is perhaps the most extensively tested, proven, and supported serial protocol in the world, and its open-architecture was ideal for our approach.

Every sensor can be individually addressed, at a specific modbus address.  Modbus systems use one “master” polling device on the bus. Theoretically,  up to 254 devices can exist on a single bus, but in practice this is generally  limited to 32, to keep traffic manageable. The scanning device for polling the  sensors can be as simple as a local display screen (HMI), or incorporate a complete telemetry system. Anything acting as a modbus master will suffice.

Digital Sensor Benefits: Any existing dual directional coupler can easily be retrofitted for JASMOS™ without the need to break into the transmission line, or even to power down. By simply attaching the new sensors, virtually any dual directional couplers can be used, new or old. Cabling is also simple, as the Standard allows the sensors to be daisychained.  The RF is converted into the digital domain within millimeters of the Type-N connector, minimizing interference and noise, while the sensor’s built-in microprocessor also allows for accurate calibration and temperature compensation, as well as average and peak measurements.

The Detectors can also provide a Dallas 1 wire interface, which allows localized temperature sensing, enabling temperature measurements to be made of any adjoining components.

Complete System Packages are available; while customization is also welcomed. Automation Color Touch Screens, sized from 3.8” to 12.1” provide Ethernet, and modbus RS-485 interfaces. All sizes allow remote access via TCP/IP-based automation protocols, but Models 5.7” and larger also provide full webpage access as well.

In addition to the new RF detector, Jasmos™ Series 8000
systems are comprised of several “building blocks” that can be
combined, depending on need; and customization of systems is
welcomed.are chosen, all conforming to common protocol standards, further reducing the chance of obsolescence in the future.

The JSMS 8401-Series of Automation Color Touch Screens provide ethernet and modbus RS-485 interfaces. All
versions have the HMI layout mapped into the RTU register database, and allow local Control & Monitoring, rackmounting,
and additional software customization. Sizes from 3.8" to 12.1"
are available. Basic Configuration Software is preinstalled in all systems, and provides Forward & Reflected Power
measurement, calculated Return Loss and/or VSWR, and comes preprogrammed with 5 discrete alarms. All sizes allow remote access via TCP/IPbased automation protocols, but Models 5.7” and larger also provide full webpage access also using TCP/IP Protocols.

Rack Mounting Frames for the JSMS 8401 are 19” wide, with
standard DIN rail mounting. The COTS power supply and data interface are designed to mount on this frame as well. Its open configuration allows routers, modbus alarm relays, and the like to be included in the design and attached as desired. The height of the frame depends on the screen size chosen – 3.8”and 5.7” color touch screens are incorporated into the same chassis as the data interface and power supply, while larger displays are housed in their own chassis.

The included JSMS 8524-001-DPS provides a standard AC – 24VDC power supply. The Current limit is determined by load, and typically falls into the 2A to 4A range.

The JSMS 8501-001-SDI Data Interface Module handles the distribution of the RS-485 data, and also provides DCfusing for bus power to the sensors, and the 8401 HMI screens. If additional couplers are desired, both VHF and MF versions are available, and come standard with RF Detectors precalibrated.

Integration of system components into existing Remote Control, Telemetry, or SCADA systems is easy, as virtually all support modbus, and can serve as the backbone of a very thorough system solution.

Any, or all of the components described above can also be integrated into 3rd party remote control systems. These Remote Control, Telemetry, or SCADA systems are available already brimming with features and connectivity. Virtually all will support modbus either as a serial connection, or via TCP/IP; and, in addition, these systems provide interfaces to the outside world via IP, WAN, phone interface, etc. They also handle remote access, cell phone support, web access and SNMP traps and the like, so can serve as the backbone of a very thorough, and far-reaching system solution.
